Harmonic Mixing FAQ

What is harmonic mixing?

Harmonic mixing is the technique of transitioning between tracks that are musically compatible — sharing the same key or a related key. This avoids clashing frequencies and creates smoother, more musical mixes.

What is the Camelot wheel?

The Camelot wheel is a visual aid developed by Mixed In Key that assigns every musical key a number (1–12) and a letter (A for minor, B for major). Keys next to each other on the wheel sound harmonically compatible.

What is Open Key notation?

Open Key is an alternative notation system used by Native Instruments' software. It uses numbers 1–12 with "d" (dominant/major) or "m" (minor) — e.g. 1d = C major, 1m = A minor. It maps 1-to-1 with Camelot notation.

How do I use this Camelot key converter?

Type a Camelot code (like 8A or 12B) into the input field. The tool shows the musical key, Open Key equivalent, and three harmonically compatible keys you can mix into next.
